Green Card policy

An international insurance agreement that protects against expenses for accidental damage caused to another vehicle, a third party, or their property in a road traffic accident in a Green Card system member country.

  • The policy comes into effect as soon as the next day after purchase

  • Can be bought for a period ranging from 15 days to up to 12 months

  • For vehicles registered in Latvia

A Green Card policy is mandatory to cross the border by car when traveling to any of the following countries:

    Follow the progress of your submitted claim by logging in to balta.lv or the "My BALTA" section of the app. If any questions arise, an employee from BALTA will contact you.

  • RECEIVE A DECISION

    After reviewing your claim, we will inform you about the decision and the compensation.

Frequently asked questions about MTPL Green Card insurance

The MTPL Green Card policy comes into effect the day after payment. If the policy is purchased with a future date, it becomes effective at 00:00 on the date specified as the policy start date.

If a road traffic accident occurs in a Green Card system member state that is not a member of the European Economic Area, the persons involved in the accident must notify the Road Police and the Green Card Bureau of that country.

If you suffer a loss abroad as a result of a road traffic accident, for which compensation is provided by legislative acts, you must submit a claim for compensation to the insurance company that has insured the civil liability of the at-fault driver. If this is not possible, then the relevant country's Green Card Bureau must be notified.
