What to do if you suddenly contracted an illness while being abroad
Emergency aid and medical expenses
- In case you require emergency medical aid while travelling, call the BALTA Help Desk on +371 67 500 174 (24 hours a day) immediately, and our experts will be there to consult you in English or Russian.
- Depending on the situation, disease or nature of the accident, the Help Desk will give you directions to the nearest medical facility or arrange transportation thereto, and provide any other advice or assistance as appropriate.
Make sure you reconcile the following with the insurer
- Repatriation costs and expenses incidental to any activities related thereto: in case medical implications of a disease or injury make you return to Estonia for further treatment.
- Transportation costs for the accompanying person (a healthcare professional or a relative), if the necessity of their presence during transportation is prescribed by the findings of the physician in charge of the case.
- Travel expenses incidental to the arrival of a relative or significant other – transportation costs and/or accommodation costs, if your condition prevents your repatriation.
- Evacuation of a child aged below 16 to the place of residence, if the insured person is undergoing inpatient treatment and the child is left without an adult caregiver.
- Repatriation in case of death or Expenses incidental to burial in a foreign country.
- Costs incidental to the transportation of remains of a deceased insured person to the country of residence or expenses incidental to burial in a foreign country have to be reconciled with the insurer.
